On Saturday Caleb had his second wrestling tournament of the year. It was over 2 hours away from home so I stayed home with the other kids (and went to Nate's birthday bash!) while Caleb went with his dad.
I actually enjoy watching wrestling (not the fake stuff on tv, the real stuff) though having your own child involved is tough at times. You can't really say, "Your team just didn't play well." when there is a loss because the action is one-on-one. Caleb is not very naturally aggressive and tends to think through his moves instead of moving quickly and in wrestling, that is trouble. He loves it though and works hard at practices. He moved up a bracket this year and is one of the youngest so we knew this would be a challenging season. And no matter how many times we tell him that, and how impressed we are that he very rarely gets pinned (he makes the other guy work for his win every time), losing repeatedly (or even just once in the eyes of the competitive people in this house) just stinks. Caleb has been struggling with insecurity athletically the past few weeks and going 0-3 the first match added to it.
Doug and I both prayed that Caleb would win just one match on Saturday. Well, I was overjoyed when I received a text from Doug that Caleb won his first match. He went on to win the second one as well and lost the third one in the final period. My heart was singing. I was so happy for him and he so needed this. Can you tell he was a happy camper when he got home... the fact he posed for a picture and SMILED for it are true signs of his joy!
Here he is recreating some moves for me since I missed it. Someday I think I will be watching Nyah wrestle too.
It was just what he needed and came at the perfect time! Yeah for Caleb!

Congrats Caleb!!!! We are so proud of you~
Great job Caleb. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger and eventually the hard work pays off. As my girls would say "You Go Boy!"
Great job!! I know squat about wrestling but know lots about being proud of your kids. :-)
Hopefully these wins will boost his confidence level!
Tell Caleb to keep at it!! Both of my boys wrestle. It is the toughest 6 minutes of their lives everytime they get on the mat. My oldest (2008 grad) dislocated his kneecap in his junior and senior year and still became conference champ for his weight class. My other son is a sophmore this year and he doesn't have quite a 500 record but he knows that as he gets stronger he will get better!
Wrestling is a great sport for boys and girls. I think Big T will have Little T wrestling when she is old enough too!
Good job Caleb!!!
Hugs,
Carla
