Today was the first day of school for P (kindergarten) and C (3rd grade). They headed excitedly out the door with their new Star Wars backpacks.
This was quite a surprise since most of us assumed we would have to push a sobbing P onto the bus. He has a history of fearing new things… cried the first days of preschool, the first practice of t-ball, and the first soccer practice. But I think talking about his teacher being silly (and she, thankfully, has a wonderful reputation as a great, fun teacher) helped, along with the ice-cream-when-you-get-home bribe if he was brave. Well, P was ready to meet the bus 45 minutes before it was schedule to arrive! He had a great day! C had a great day too but he has always liked school.
C loved art class the best today and insists he needs to bring his baseball glove to school for softball at recess. P liked recess best, which after pulling out my dusty “20 ways to ask the same question to finally get an answer” skills, I think he was actually talking about P.E. He was very excited that another student in the class had brought the same exact Lunchable to lunch.
Poor E wanted to contribute to the how-was-school? conversations and proceeded to tell me everyone who was in his swim lessons last month. B just enjoyed having the ice-cream. They met their preschool teacher last week (E was nervous going but settled in quickly; B threw a big tantrum leaving because she wanted to bring toys home with her). We are a bit nervous about whether she is ready for school but I guess we will know soon. She is just so excited. E is ready for preschool (probably high school actually) but doesn’t seem overly thrilled to be going. They will go twice a week for three hours starting in two weeks.
I finally took P to the doctor yesterday and he has swimmer’s ear in the left ear so now either Doug or I need to put drops in his ears in the middle of the school day so Doug did it today and I will do it tomorrow. I am glad he likes school or us showing up midday would have been a terrible thing. He wasn't in much pain (about 5 minutes of complaining a day tops) so I am glad I didn't take him 7 days ago when he first mentioned his ear felt funny... call me a procrastinator (I do) but at least he didn't miss full pool days! He pouted when the rest went to the pool after school today. I felt bad for him. His swimming has taken off this summer… he even learned to dive just like C and sitting out is torture! We want to take the kids to a water park Saturday so we need some healing fast!
I still need to add some of our summer pictures on here. I have been really slack with that. I also need to write some of the summer stories down before I forget them… I am sure some have been lost already. I am going to try to write about 1 child a day for the next four days… we will see how I do!
