Preschool Begins!

E and B had their first day of preschool yesterday. They are going for 2 days a week for 3 hours a day. Here they are headed to the car. I'm thinking E's hug looks dangerously close to him choking his sister… I am sure, really, that it is just because he is taller!

When I first signed them up for preschool, I requested they go on the same two days of the week (for easier babysitting purposes), not realizing there was only one 3-year old class so they now have the same teacher - they make up 20% of the class! I have had visions of B screaming her version of E's name across the room in her ear-piercing, high pitched screech when he is doing something she thinks he shouldn't be doing. I have had visions of the two of them in one of their heated battles when one gets on the others nerves. I have visions of the two of them delighting in telling me who got in more trouble each day. I have visions of the two of them working together to tell their teachers all the family secrets and the injustices that they endure living in our house.

Dropping them off was easier than I thought it would be. E had previously been skeptical of the whole idea but B has been counting down to preschool for days. Yesterday, E with his Star Wars lunchbox and B with her Hello Kitty lunchbox, headed off early and ready to go with their daddy! I am thinking the McDonald's for lunch with their friends Nate and Leia bribe, and knowing they could order the all-important Happy Meals, might have helped E just a little bit.

And at the end of the day, they both loved it. I can tell more by their mood than their words. The only comments E made were about how he liked the swings at the playground best, how he was the only one in a Yankees shirt (he wore it proudly Grandpa), and that he was not satisfied with his snack. I thought I had done great with the Yogos (what I consider more a treat than a healthy snack). "Why did you only pack me one thing?" he asked and when I told him it was just a snack, he let me know other kids had two things. He repeatedly reminded me all day yesterday that he expects me to do better next time and I even heard him tell his brothers that he was getting two snacks next time he went. Guess I am packing two snacks, 'cause I don't want this battle all year.

B, well, she told me, "I like my teacher Ms. Tammy." and that was it. She had other things to move onto.

They were both exhausted and went to bed easily and early! Yippee for me!

The feel good moment of the day was the enthusiastic greeting I got when I picked them up from their classroom… one in my arms and one wrapped around my leg and both cheering "Mommy!!!" The cutest moment of the whole day was the split second that P got off the bus, he was yelling to B and E, asking if they liked preschool.
