Jessa at 1 year...

Jessa10

I still cannot believe Jessa is already 1. This post was supposed to go up right around her birthday... now I am just squeezing it in, with a day to spare, so I can say I at least finished it the same month as her birthday.

We had a little family and people-we-consider-family party for her the weekend of her birthday. She was diagnosed with an ear infection and pink eye the weekend before and for a while I didn't think her medication was working because she was still not herself. But by her birthday, she was back to her happy self.

At her party she seemed a bit confused when we all started singing. I love that I caught it on camera!

She was over the singing as soon as she saw Doug with the cupcake. She dug into that cupcake as fast as she could, grabbing as much as she could in her tiny fists.

She had a lot of help opening her presents though really she enjoyed throwing her things into one of the gift bags. I think she enjoyed the birthday thing!

Jessa went go for her 1 year appointment about 1 1/2 weeks later. She is 20lbs (30%) and in the 70% for height.

Here are a few things about Jessa this month:
  • She is still in some 9 month clothes but mostly 12 month size. She is petite and the only pudge she has is right around her bellybutton.
  • She still has her birthmark on her top right shoulder. It has not faded.
  • Her hair appears to be a little curly in the back but is pretty straight at the top. My mom says that my hair had a similar pattern but that mine was coarser.
  • Her eyes are still hazel... mostly blue and brown like Doug's.
  • She is happy.
  • She is stubborn.
  • She will try to walk by herself and can manage a short distance. She still thinks it is funny when she realizes what she is doing and when she starts to laugh she typically falls on her bottom.
  • She will walk a while holding someone's hand.
  • She crawls super fast.
  • Most of the time she scoots around on her knees. It is so funny to see. It is as if she knows she should be upright but doesn't want to risk the falling part.
  • She still loves her paci. Now when she is headed to sleep she likes one in her mouth and one in her hand.
  • She will hug, kiss, and rock her baby dolls.
  • She is a mama's girl at night and most of the day but there are times when only daddy is wanted.
  • She is inquisitive and the nickname "Nosy Nellie" still fits.
  • She babbles all the time. It really seems like she thinks we understand her.
  • She likes to tease us by pretending to give us something and then pulling it back to her when we get close.
  • She likes food she can feed herself. Chicken is a favorite.
  • So far she does not like milk. Like Evan did when he was little, she will only drink it if it is chocolate milk.
  • She loves our cell phones but her true favorite "toy" is the iP*d.
